Awareness Cambodia USA

Together we can make a difference.

Russ Landreth – USA Cordinator

When my wife Janet and I first visited Cambodia in 2005 we came face to face with the results of the devastation left behind by the Khmer Rouge some 25 to 30 years earlier.  You see Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge eliminated some 25% of the Cambodian population, choosing first the well-educated creating an intellectual vacuum, throughout the country.

When we were introduced to Awareness Cambodia and the work they were doing, we could see that in time, these children could and would make a difference in backfilling the intellectual capital that had been lost.  Awareness Cambodia rescues the vulnerable children, protects them, providing them a safe environment to live and grow while empowering them, providing them an education from elementary through college.

With this glimpse of what founder, Dr. Gary Hewett had begun, and following trips to Cambodia, we wanted to help with the mission. In 2010 Awareness Cambodia USA was established as a Public Benefit Corporation.  Being recognized as a 501(c) 3 corporation, all gifts are tax deductible.

Awareness Cambodia is committed to rebuilding the children of Cambodia. While we have seen tremendous progress since our first time in Cambodia in 2005, there is still much work to be done.  Together we can make a difference.

Russ and Janet Landreth place a new shade “sail” over the playground at the Sunshine House in August 2017. A team from the USA installed the playground in 2011 in conjunction with Kids Around the World.
